The Resident Advancement Committee of the Saint Luke’s Foundation are delighted to share the news of our recent grant awards to several outstanding community organizations. The Resident Advancement Committee (RAC), Saint Luke’s grantmaking body of community members, carefully reviewed each application and selected the recipients. The RAC, comprised of residents from the Saint Luke’s footprint, oversees our community discretionary budget and has the unique opportunity to award up to $140,000 annually for initiatives that address social, economic, and environmental factors shaping health in their neighborhoods.
Here are the incredible projects funded by our foundation in March 2024:
March 2024 Grantees
Community Movie Night
New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church – $6,000
This faith-based group will host its second annual Friday Family Movie Night, running from June 7 to August 16. The event aims to provide a safe community activity to mitigate violence and poverty. Two youth from Y.O.U. will be hired to help plan and lead the movie nights.
180 B.P.M Intro to Future Tech
Fiscal Sponsored by Neighborhood Connections – $6,000
This grant will support the Future Tech Summer Session, educating 10-15 residents about blockchain, makers tech, and AI. The program runs weekly from June to August and aims to provide technological tools and resources to urban society.
Kinship Care Swim Program
Fiscal Sponsored by See You at the Top – $6,000
This program offers swimming and lifeguard training to 8 youth in kinship care, promoting water safety and career opportunities in the aquatics industry. The initiative addresses higher drowning rates among Black people and the lifeguard shortage.
Soulfood for Health Cooking Initiative
Sponsored by New Image Life Skills Academy – $6,000
Focusing on hypertension, this program includes meal prep demonstrations and education to improve health outcomes. The project will create videos and a hypertension resource book, aiming to reach 1,000 people.
