Strong Communities Grantee EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute profiled in the news

(4.16.14) EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute, a Saint Luke’s Foundation Strong Communities Grantee, recently graduated its first class of 29 graduates. These students, who attended EDWINS’ six-month classroom and training program, are moving on to assume duties with notable restaurants throughout Greater Cleveland. Their accomplishments, and the backstory of EDWINS, were detailed in a Crain’s Cleveland Business blog post. You can read the post here.

EDWINS, an acronym for education wins, is developing a new generation of leaders in the culinary industry by training returning ex-offenders for long-term, successful careers in fine dining restaurants. EDWINS successfully piloted the culinary arts training program in an Ohio prison and the Northeast Ohio Pre-release Center in Cleveland. In 2013, with support from Saint Luke’s Foundation, EDWINS launched the second phase of its restaurant and leadership institute – a restaurant located in Shaker Square that allows participants the opportunity to train and use the skills they learn to operate a fine dining restaurant.

We at Saint Luke’s Foundation congratulate this first class of EDWINS graduates and wish them well as they progress in their careers!
