Saint Luke’s Foundation Embarks on Community-Led Process to Guide a New Ground Level Home in Woodland Neighborhood

Cleveland, OH — The Saint Luke’s Foundation is proud to announce the early stages of an exciting new chapter: exploring the creation of a ground-level headquarters in Cleveland’s Woodland neighborhood. This effort reflects our commitment to accessibility, transparency, and community connection, ensuring the process is guided by those who know these neighborhoods best — the people who live and work here.

Currently located on the sixth floor of the historic former Saint Luke’s Hospital, the Foundation seeks to move closer to the ground and to the community it serves. The proposed headquarters will be located at the Woodland Avenue and E. 110th Street, a site that places the Foundation in the heart of the neighborhood. This move is about more than a building; it is about opening doors to opportunity, engagement, and a shared vision for the future that physically aligns with the foundation’s community-facing philosophy.

This is not simply about a building. It is about creating a place that mirrors our community facing philosophy and culture, said Tim Tramble, President and CEO of Saint Luke’s Foundation. “It is about a space where neighbors are welcomed, where voices are heard, and where people can gather with dignity. It is about health equity, because health equity demands access, and access requires doors that are open.”

Community at the Center
From the outset, this process will include significant due diligence and robust engagement with residents and partners primarily in Saint Luke’s footprint to ensure that every voice matters. The Foundation is committed to designing a space that reflects neighborhood priorities, honors the community’s history, and supports a healthier, more connected future.

As part of this, the Foundation is launching several key engagements:

● Community Conversations in Woodland Hill

Key residents and stakeholders have been engaged, including through a community barbecue. In these engagements, residents shared and will contiune to share their ideas, concerns, and thoughts regarding a new building and its amenities. This event marks the start of a series of conversations designed to gather insights that will shape the vision of the proposed building.

Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Architecture Firms
In September 2025, the Foundation will open a public RFQ inviting architecture firms to submit proposals. This process aims to identify a partner whose vision reflects cultural vibrancy, creativity, and a deep respect for inclusive design. Submissions will be accepted through October 2025.

Neighborhood Design Competition in November
To ensure residents remain central in the process, the Foundation will host a design competition in November 2025 within Saint Luke’s footprint. This event will allow community members to directly engage with architecture firms and provide feedback on emerging concepts in person and digitally via Lift Every Voice 216.

The insights from these engagements will guide the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in selecting an architectural firm in early 2026.

“The Saint Luke’s Foundation Board, leadership and staff are committed to assuring that
residents are involved in the development process, every step of the way, said Terry Allan, Board Chair of the Saint Luke’s Foundation. “We want the building to be embraced as a valuable community asset, in the same way that Saint Luke’s Hospital was during its many years of operation.”
